About Us

Classic Arcade Game Hire originated with Keith Davidson in 1979, as Midas Coin Company. Having traded a fish and chip shop business in Birkdale for three, then state-of-the-art, Space Invaders machines,(we still have one of those left!).

The business continued through the ups and downs of the industry through the 80s and 90s. In 2001 Brett Carter joined the business, working with Keith and his wife Jocelyn for 19 years before buying the business and making it his own.

Brett Carter

Originally from Wellington, I grew up an 80s child surrounded by pop culture. Arcade games were in almost every shop and arcade venues were huge. Moved to Auckland in the late 80s and played a lot of Ghosts ’n’ Goblins at a laundromat in Morningside. I left high school to work in a brewery for a while then spent many years working in appliance repairs. The past 20 years I’ve loved working on arcade games for a living rather than just a hobby. I am still passionate about the games and following the industry closely. I’ve acquired a wealth of appreciation, knowledge, contacts, and parts.

What drives me

We thrive on providing authentic arcade games with genuine well-maintained hardware. In most cases, we use the original computers and CRT screens. This gives our customers the same experience they remember from their youth when the games were new. Some people may have played on the very machines we provide - at one stage we operated over 150 machines in the Auckland area.

When you deal with us you are dealing with someone who really enjoys being a part of your successful business/event.

No hard sell, just smooth sailing from start to finish.

The equipment provided gave our exhibition the sort of cut through attention required to bring people onto our stand and brought us the networking effect we were looking for. I was impressed by the quick and efficient setting up and breaking down of the car racing game. There was little or no interruption to other exhibitors during this process. I would be happy to recommend your company to anybody considering this type of equipment for a future event.
